Yogo is settling in rather well, I believe... She has definitely decided she is the Princess of the house.

We've enjoyed our first week with Black Jack and he's settling in nicely. He got his first shots last Tuesday and was so well behaved at the vet. He enjoys his time in the house and play time in the backyard. He hasn't met the neighbors 2 dogs yet (a jack russell terrier and a rat terrier), but when they bark at him through the fence, he runs to the back door and whines to be let into the safety of the house.

Here are some recent pictures. Take Care. -Melanie, Scott, Abbie, Ben, Meg & Black Jack

Happy Holidays from Black Jack and the rest of his family.

Here's a favorite photo from this past summer when we were camping. Black Jack is 9 months old now and ~60 pounds. We finished our first obedience class in October. Black Jack did very well learning how to walk well on a leash (as long as mom had yummy liver treats in her pocket). He was neutered at 6 months and we also had his rear dew claws removed as they were very floppy. He enjoys his walks, especially when he gets to play with the other dogs off-leash. He has also realized that his dog bed is great for sleeping rather than chewing to bits. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season.

Sincerely, Melanie, Scott, Abbie, Ben, Meg & Black Jack

Lunar

We made it home OK through some rain. Lunar likes to follow big dog Brandy when we get out of the car. He had a good dinner of puppy chow in warm broth. He and Janis romped in our field. Then she toweled him off. He is sleeping now in his "flight kennel" on Janis' bunk, next to her. We are making sure he always has someone nearby to help him adjust and feel more secure.

By golly, he's done everything he should outside so far and nomistakes. Good doggie. Thanks for your hospitality today. Hey, you just sent me some pictures and a nice note. I'll look at the pics tomorrow. Kate

I wanted you to see that Lunar is settling in very well. He and Brandy are getting to be real pals. She is so sweet and gentle with him, and clearly likes having him to play with. He adores her, climbs on her and chews on her ears and skinfolds. He loves to walk with us down our field, and up to the mailbox. We use harness & leash on the road, which he tolerates just fine. The cats are still rather upset, but Zorro-cat was willing to sniff noses this morning while I was holding Lunar. Yours, Kate

Lunar is doing with us at 16 weeks of age. Janis adores him, and he adores her. He is a super-energetic guy, very smart, cautiously bumptious with the cats, and totally in love with his foster mama packmate, Brandy the St. Bernard. He has learned sit and stay, walks well on lead, and is working on heel. He's even pretty good in the bathtub.

His coat is still quite short, and his ears and tail are long. He looks quite a bit like a black-and-tan coonhound, a noble breed. We are very happy with our choice. My best to you both, Kate

Lunar has gotten pretty big, and *very* strong. He's full of energy, but is also learning to control himself. Janis has been doing a wonderful job of training him. He has quite a talent for "fetch", which we were particularly hoping for. His voice is getting deeper, and he sounds like a hound.

He was neutered fairly young, about 4 mos, so you can check that off in his file. He is about 9 mos old now. Here is a picture of him with his big buddy Brandy, in the field behind our house. They love to romp together.

He gets along well with our 3 cats. He is a bit overbearing but fairly respectful. He even solicitously grooms head cat black Southey, nibbling her fur. For a big energetic guy, he is doing well as a house pet. Sometimes he runs back and forth from room to room like a crazy dog. He also has a talent for chasing his tail - good thing it's long. He sleeps in a big cardboard-box den at the foot of Janis' bed. Thank you again for our wonderful pet. Give my regards to Joe. Kate

Lunar is fine and happy, and has grown into a solid, handsome, vigorous, totally canine Dog. He still curls up with Brandy the St. Bernard to nap. He is calm in the tub for his bath, fetches well, and likes to jump hurdles. Lunar's motto is "Happiness is a dinner dish worth licking." Your friend, Kate P.S. Hello from Janis

Hi Joe and Tina, How nice to hear from you. We and Lunar send again our thanks for yourgood start to his good life. He is 2 & 1/2 now (passes quickly, eh?), andan accomplished and responsible pack member. Lunar and Brandy the St.Bernard are best buddies. He sleeps under our tallbed with her every night, on padded carpet. They both live mostly indoors, and can be trusted to care for the house and cats on the rare days we go totown for the day. Lunar whines at the door when he needs to go out, helpful to our busy household. Of course, several daily walks are his joy. During schooltime, we walkJanis up to school in the morning, and walk again to get her in theafternoon. This quarter-mile or so is generally pleasant for both the dogsand us, even in brisk weather. We use flexi-leashes to keep the dogs frommischief when ranch trucks sporting dog riders drive by. Lunar is inlovely condition, and so beautiful in his physique and demeanor - a realpleasure to walk with. Lunar has "joi de vivre" (joy of life) and often starts play sessions withBrandy, Nick, or Janis. His favorite toy is a knotted cotton rope fortug-of-war. His formal education helps him control his magnificent energy. He has learned many good tricks, including staying while dinner is putdown until called, balancing a biscuit on his nose, shaking hands, fetching, etc. He knows lots of human words and pays good attention. Hekeeps a good lookout out the windows, and lets us know when people orwildlife are nearby. In our remote location, it is pleasant for me to knowhe is alert for possible trouble. Happy holidays to you, and wishes for a merry 2008. Kate

Kiki (now Mocha)

Mocha has turned out to be one of the best, and suprisingly most beautiful dog I've owned. Can you make her a little dumber - she's too smart and knows exactly what she can get away with and how to get herself out of trouble with that cute face! She's on the move every waking moment. She's only got 2 speeds: Full blown turbo, and sleep. We play fetch, and tug of war, she chases birds in the yard, and the cat in the house.

The picture is of all three kids - Of course Mocha came from your shelter. Tiger, the tabby cat, is from the Cascade County Shelter, and was adopted at the age of 2, just a couple months after Mocha came to our home. The guinea pig was here, and is about as old as the cat.
